Enterprise-Architecture Baseline and Transformation Roadmap
Large national company
- Period
- 2017-01 — 2019-01
- Role
- Enterprise Architect
Context
A growing subsidiary was multiplying systems, integrations, and data centres faster than it could document them, with unclear interdependencies and no systematic architecture view. Without a shared baseline and target direction, initiatives compete, dependencies stay hidden, and change becomes expensive and risky to coordinate.
Approach
Structured the enterprise into a baseline view and a target direction with explicit dependencies and phased steps, balancing completeness against usefulness so the roadmap stayed trustworthy and actionable. Made trade-offs — sequencing, ownership, cross-domain implications — visible so leadership could make informed commitments.
Outcome
Gave Large national company’s leadership a shared enterprise-architecture baseline and a sequenced transformation roadmap, turning a broad growth ambition into managed, decision-ready change rather than accidental expansion.
- Documented baseline architecture across 39+ components (network topology, integrations, infrastructure) in standardised notation.
- TOGAF-based transformation roadmap with phases, dependencies, and risks gave management a foundation for growth decisions.
- Aligned stakeholders across executive, technical, and operations levels on a common target-state vision.
Key result
Established an EA baseline (39+ documented components) and a TOGAF-based roadmap that converted a broad growth ambition into a sequenced, dependency-aware set of decisions leadership could commit to.
